Contribute is in the process of establishing a network of correspondents to cover the twenty-two countries of the MENA* region. If you are interested in the media, freedom of the press or freedom of expression issues, we will be more than happy to look at any proposals you might send our way.

We are not just looking for writers either. Photographers, filmmakers, radio journalists, bloggers, cartoonists or graphic artists are also more than welcome to submit ideas.

Although our emphasis is on news and trends in the Arab media world, we also encourage and want to help produce plain good journalism about the region.

Story ideas should be sent by email to

All proposals are sent "on spec", meaning that we need to look at your proposal or finished media product before we accept it. No financial obligation exists on the part of Menassat until a story has been formally accepted by us. We try to respond to pitches as quickly as possible.

Our basic rate for an article of up to 1,500 words is $100. (A standard news article should ideally be no longer than 1,000 words.) Payment for bigger stories, or stories that involve extensive research, will be discussed on a case per case basis.

We accept articles in Arabic, English and French. Menassat will provide translation if necessary. If you are fluent in two languages (e.g. Arabic and English) we will pay you an extra 50 pct. on top of the basic rate.

More elaborate contributors' guidelines will be posted in this section a.s.a.p.
