| Even before today's official start of Ramadan, the "musalsals" or Ramadan soap operas had already managed to create the usual controversy, what with "Nasser" being banned in Egypt and a whole legal soap opera revolving around the filming of"Asmahan." | ||

| A recent study by an Egyptian women's rights group claims that a whopping 83 percent of Egyptian women have been exposed to sexual harassment of some kind. Various groups have launched media campaigns to raise awareness, but some of them appear to be blaming the victims. | ||

| A recent surge of social activism among Egyptians has alerted the government to a networking force that has thus far eluded their control: Facebook. Since the 6 April general strike, rumor has it that the social networking website has been front and center on the Egyptian authorities' radar as they mull over the possibility of a block. | ||
