Lebanon arrests three for alleged Facebook slander of president
BEIRUT — Lebanon arrested on Monday three people who allegedly used the social networking website Facebook to slander President Michel Sleiman, a judicial source said.

Editor imprisoned for criticising military junta
In a move that surprised press freedom groups, a jailed Mauritanian editor of an online publication critical of the country's rulers was sentenced to a further two years in prison on 4 February, report the Arab Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI), the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
Journalists at risk; pro-government press intensifies attack on critics
Intimidation and harassment of Tunisian journalists has escalated in recent weeks, reports the Observatoire pour la liberté de presse, d'édition et de création (OLPEC). The Tunisia Monitoring Group (TMG), composed of 20 IFEX members, has called on the European Parliament to raise free expression violations with the Tunisian government in upcoming discussions.
SYRIA: Authorities say nothing as arbitrary arrests continue
Reporters Without Borders is worried about the detention of reporter Ali Taha and cameraman Ali Ahmed by the Department of Internal Security since 2 January. The authorities have not said why they were arrested or where they are being held.

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, ANHRI, said today, that the general prosecutor decided to conclude the complaint filed by the known blogger Wael Abbas in April 2009, after being physically assaulted by a police officer and his brother. The investigation was closed allegedly due to lack of evidence, despite the presence of three medical reports including the forensic medical report documenting the injuries inflicted on Abbas and although one of his front teeth got broken.
